The fact that Avatar is also shown in 3D and in special theaters (IMAX) at higher-priced tickets has a lot to do with it being the highest grossing film of all time. Titanic would rather hit another iceberg that compete with that. In Avatar, Cameron utilizes the existing technology to sickeningly mindblowing effects. Still, his scripts, in both Titanic and Avatar, leave a lot to be desired, to put it mildly. He needs to write better lines that wouldn't leave his viewers wanting to tear their ears off ala Van Gogh then go hurling at their own popcorn buckets. Gah.
