I think that there will be no relief for the Philippines as long as tacky gameshows like Wowowee remains popular.

Wowowee represents everything that is wrong with the Philippines. It mocks ugly folks and people who do not speak grammatically correct English, it encourages crass humor, and embraces the victim mentality. The more heart-wrenching your **** sob story is, the bigger the reward. What fcked up system is that? Willie was interviewing this woman. She was just bawling her eyes out. She and her husband were both unemployed, lived on the side of the tracks, had 17 - 17, mga kapatid! - mouths to feed and she was just going out of her mind with worry and soaking Willie's shirt with her tears to boot. And you know what Willie did? Gave the retard an enormous amount of money. Money she didn't deserve and would invariably spend frivolously. If I cared enough to be bothered, I would have given her a lecture on how to use condoms.

I am not a fan of quick fixes and the victim mentality – notions that are, sadly, wholeheartedly embraced by majority of Filipinos.

E.g. Bawal sumingit sa pila, mag overtake, magbabad sa overtake lane etc. Bakit may gumagawa? Kasi walang nanghuhuli!

i agree that these guys need to find some work.

IMO that's shifting responsibility. it's just like blaming the government for every problem we have in our country.

those who were unemployed and tambay dati, tagabantay na sa lansangan tuwing gabi...

I agree. And what happens with that money? I betcha it's all gone in a few days and they go back to their usual ways. Unless the mother & her husband use it to truly help make their lives better.

The problem with many Filipinos is that they expect to be helped just because they are poor. They don't want to make the effort of helping themselves climb out of the pit they are in. Though when they do, they want instant gratification. Where is the "hard working" trait that Filipinos are so well known for?

What's doubly sad is that this ugali of spending when you have money & not finding ways to keep/expand it happens not just in the lower classes, but also for people who were educated.

The opportunities to fight and end poverty are there. People need to meet it halfway but changing their attitude, swallowing their prides and not expecting money to roll in immediately.

It is doubtful that the contestants really have that "hardship" in life. This is just basic Economics, contestants are rewarded on the basis of how dramatic their life is. They dont actually check if they are saying the truth. I know some people who enjoy having sympathies with these types of shows, not only Filipinos. This isnt unique in the Philippines. But annoying none the less...

I am a victim therefore you must give me your Monay!

Well I prefer wowowee over the "other."

WTF?! I rarely say the "F" word, dun lang talaga. Di ko nakuha yung joke. Buti sana kung di sadya.

Back on topic.

Sa atin naman, mejo marami ang considered poverty at mejo mababa ang standards ng ating gobyerno with regards to who to consider as mahirap. So the point is, lahat naman ng bansa may mahihirap, marunong lang sila magbalanse.
