The Koreans come to the Philippines to study and learn the English language. Our schools provide competent teachers of the English language. Aside from that, the climate is close to theirs and the cost of living is also cheaper compared to the United States. There were Koreans in my school when I was in grade school. I also had Korean and Taiwanese classmates again in high school. Same thing, they want to learn English. Well, that can be an assurance that we have competent English instructors.
As for general education in the Philippines, there are some aspects that are poor or of low quality. But of course, there is a continuing goal to provide good quality education to all students. From the physical infrastructure of our school buildings, provisions of books and learning materials, as well as employment of competent teachers, I think the government and the private sector are pushing for these things.

i think mas mganda pa din ang educational system sa pilipinas compare to other countries in general.simple reason is that filipinos are competitive professinals & skilled workers.makakarating ba naman tyo kung saan saan sulok ng mundo at in demand as ofw kung di mganda ang pinagaralan natin.tama po ba?

I couldn't agree with you more especially this phrase "there are some aspects that are poor or of low quality.."
Speaking of such, I think the system of government took the lion share of whatever it is now, let alone the ruling of politicians prevails.

The Philippine education system is purely based on memorizing and getting high grades. High grades and memorizing a book does not mean an individual is educated. I am lucky to experience and get my education in the U.S. and I have to say their education is based on real world applications.

Public school textbooks are in a terrible state. Madaming contextual at grammatical errors. Tsaka ang mga exams puro fill-in-the-blanks or choose-the-best-answer. I dont think that those types of exams are an effective gauge of a student's progress. Mas napapaaral kasi ako pag essay-type yung mga exams or kapag oral recitations. But if you have to discuss things, that's when it gets tricky. Tsaka, I wish universities are skills-based rather than theory-based. Yun lang. Hehehe.

In the international arena it is common for a certain country to hire or contract different nationalities.
The reason Filipinos are hired overseas is because the Philippine government itself peddles its own people to other countries to make money on remittance.
I will not say that the Philippine education system is bad but I will say that it is wrong to make a claim that the education system is good because Filipinos are peddled overseas as a source of remittance.
There is a great flaw in the education system when Filipinos are proud of their computer skills but need to contact to a U.S. provider to build their election system. Thousands of pass the engineering and law boards but the politicans are filled with celebrities, that should be a marker for flawed education.

Cheap wins in international contacts, cheap is the major reason Filipinos are hired. If Filipinos are better educated then Saudi should be hiring our engineering firms, not engineers to work as peons.
If we have good education then Filipino engineering firms should be hired to go build dams in China or oil wells in Saudi. Whats happening now is German or American firms are building this international projects and subcontracting manual labor jobs to college educated Filipinos. Harsh but that is the sad reality.

I think that you are referring NOT on the entirety of Phil. education system but on a mere specific system of an academe or teacher for that matter. Yes there's somewhat true to what you have uttered. However, school system does not implement such any kind of system. It usually happens under any incompetent teachers. The problem now starts from them.
Lucky you that you were able to study in the U.S. but mind you, our system has patterned from them too in one way or another. The only problem is we lack of funds or budget to sustain what US has. And maybe one of the root causes why we can't compete well (as far as education system is concerned) even to our neighboring countries i.e Thailand, Malaysia etc. is our Government system where bureaucracy is rampant. Let alone our country belongs to the "third world countries".

As far as Saudi Arabia's hiring for engineering contractor firms is concern, we are just bound to have this so called "wishful thinking". We are simply not able to compete with any other counties who belong to the FIRST WORLD, Vinceli. Remember that we are only rich in manpower resources (of course other than natural resources), and that's our pinoy workers. I hope that you got my point.

To answer the OP, yes we are already left behind by our neighboring countries. The 2003 TIMSS showed this. Unfortunately we opted out to join the 2007 TIMSS.
That we have seen foreigners going to our country to study can be simply explained that it is because we have a good command of English.
@holydevil: That's actually a wrong reasoning... The very reason why we have OFWs the world over is because our economy could not create enough jobs for them, which means that our education system failed to produce innovative and inventive graduates, who could move the economy forward.
@vinceli: Please don't generalize. Even in public schools, students being asked to memorize entire books is an exception rather than a rule. I have friends that have worked as teachers here in the Philippines and transferred abroad, and apparently our students here learn faster than those in the U.S.
